Automatic transfer of measurement data between the measurement software on the PC and the augmented reality glasses

Measurement procedure using the Sound Intensity Modul

1. Configuration of the test setup on the PC

In ArtemiS SUITE you are intuitively guided through the individual steps of the experiment setup. These include selecting the measurement type (note: in conjunction with the Sound Intensity module, only a discrete measurement is currently possible), the direction of the measurement path, entering the dimensions of the measurement object and setting up the enveloping surface.

2. Data transmission via Bluetooth

After all configuration steps have been successfully completed in ArtemiS SUITE, the test setup can be sent to the HoloLens by clicking on the „Sent to HoloMetrix“ button.

3. Placing the reference cube

After successful data transfer, you will be presented with a virtual window in HoloLens with a prompt to place the reference cube. Click on this button and hold out a hand in front of you. Starting from your hand, a dashed line will now appear with a two-dimensional reference rectangle at its tip. This blue reference rectangle follows the movement of your hand. Place the rectangle so that it encloses the object to be measured and is at the correct position (or on the correct plane in space). Now you can confirm the position with an airtap. If the positioning is correct, the corresponding spatial reference cuboid will now appear immediately.

3. Measuring Sound Intensity

2437

Now the Sound Intensity module creates the enveloping surface and displays it automatically. You do not have to do anything else.

Depending on which measurement direction you have selected in ArtemiS, the first segment is now framed in green and a transparent sphere is displayed in its center. You can now conveniently align your measuring device (SI probe) to this sphere. By clicking on „Start“ on the remote control of the SI probe, the measurement is started at this point and indicated by a green progress bar around the sphere. When the measurement is completed at a point, the measurement result is automatically displayed at this segment. Now repeat this procedure at all segments of the enveloping surface.

4. Result presentation & storage

With the successful measurement of all partial segments, a sound field map is automatically created. On the one hand, this visualization significantly facilitates the interpretation and, on the other hand, the detection of acoustic problem zones. Subsequently, measures can be taken to reduce the acoustic emissions of the measured object, if necessary. However, the measurement results are not only visualized in the HoloLens, but are also automatically transferred to the PC and displayed in ArtemiS SUITE. After the measurement has been completed, it can be saved in order to compare it with later measurements, if necessary.

HONOURED WITH THE GERMAN INNOVATION AWARD IN “GOLD”

The company excelled in the “Excellence in Business to Business” competition class in the “Machines & Engineering” category with the “HoloMetrix –Sound HUB”, a positioning aid that significantly simplifies acoustic measurements using augmented reality. In AR glasses, a virtual experimental set-up is presented three-dimensionally in the real environment. This approach eliminates the time-consuming and tedious manual determination of the measuring positions.
This is a significant step forward from the usual procedures offering an impressive demonstration of what measurement will look like in the future,” according to the jury’s statement.
